Shoot bolts and Hinge bolts for Windows Security
Shoot bolts and hinge bolts are both additional security hardware options for windows, offering different benefits:
Shoot bolts are long bolts operated by a turn handle or knob on the inside of the window frame. When activated, the bolts shoot out from the frame at the top and bottom of the window, locking them into receiving brackets on the window sash.
• Provide additional locking points at the top and bottom of the window, making it more difficult to pry open.
• Work well with double-glazed windows where the strength of the glass itself might be a vulnerability.
• Often a more affordable security upgrade than replacing windows entirely.
Hinge bolts are installed on the hinge side of the window frame. When activated, a bolt extends from the frame and secures into a receiving plate on the window sash, reinforcing the hinge and preventing the window from being forced open.
• Discourage break-in attempts by reinforcing the hinge, a common target point.
• Work well with various window types, including casement windows.
• Can be a more discreet security measure compared to shoot bolts.
Steel dog bolts and Anti Bump Cylinder Locks for Composite and uPVC doors
Steel Dog Bolts:
These add an extra layer of security by preventing the door from being pried open at the hinge side. When the door is closed, a steel bolt extends from the frame and secures into a receiving plate on the door jamb.
Strengthens the hinge area: A common target for break-ins, especially for uPVC doors with weaker hinges.
Works well with these materials: Composite doors are generally strong enough to support the bolt mechanism. While uPVC doors might require checking hinge strength for compatibility.
Easy and Affordable: A relatively inexpensive way to boost security and can be DIY-installed.
Anti-Bump Cylinder Locks:
These high-security cylinders are specifically designed to resist a common break-in technique called “bumping.” Bumping involves manipulating the pins inside the cylinder with a special tool to unlock it without a key.
Superior Bump Resistance: Offers significantly more protection compared to standard cylinders.
Increased Overall Security: Combines well with steel dog bolts for a layered defense.
